One of the most popular means to help you deal with anger (either at the office, school or home) is the use of voodoo dolls. These dolls are in no way related or manufactured in the religious Voodoo way - they are just small human-like figures made of cloth, clay or rubber and into which you stick pins, needles, and staples. They are used to “vent” your anger that you might have towards your co-workers, or even your boss.

However, opinions to the effectiveness of the dolls are contradictory at best. Many scholars and other experts are of the opinion that voodoo dolls do not lower the angry feelings, but rather increase the violent feelings until they need to be expressed. At this point, the doll no longer suffices and the feelings are taken out on the person in question.

The other group of specialists is divided into two large segments: one that agrees somewhat but states that all it takes is to change the form of the toy and the name: instead of a human-like figure (of a voodoo doll), change it to a square and rename it – this will lessen the desire to harm the individual.

The other group states that sound-of mind people are aware that voodoo dolls are only intended to be “vents” so that there will be no escalating needs.

Why Do We Get Angry?

Being angry is part of human nature. Nonetheless, being angry all the time or for a large part of your day can cause serious affections, such as:

* High Blood pressure
* Migraines
* Gastritis and ulcers
* Liver problems
* Spleen problems

Other problems can appear as a consequence of a lifetime of anger; in every case, the ailment that appears has to be monitored and treated under medical supervision, which, in turn, means doctor’s fees and medications; a slow financial leak that will prevent you from using this money for more pleasant things (such as a holiday).

When you are angry, massive amounts of blood are rushed to and forced into the main organs of your body; this happens because the body is not rationalising that you are angry (for example, because your co-worker posed your idea as his) - all your body will recognise is that you are in “attack mode” and as such, will make sure that you look fierce.

Therefore, it will be a lot more to your benefit if you manage your anger episodes. Consider that you might be very angry, and the person that is causing you to be angry will be as happy as a clam while you suffer with severe gastritis and ulcers. It simply is not worth it.

Working in an office requires you to be able to manage your emotions and feelings so that you are always in control; in terms of anger management, it means that you have to take all the necessary steps to prevent venting your anger, which may have been caused by the worker in the personnel department, your secretary or even worse, your boss.

There are many ways by which you can vent such angry episodes; for example, you can have a therapy ball nearby and devote five minutes to squeezing exercises; focusing on doing such exercises in the right way will allow you to slowly decrease your anger levels.

Regardless of the type of therapy or anger management solution that you select, make sure that it is not difficult to do while you continue to work, and that it will not cause you further problems such as ethical, diplomatic and other issues regarding probable infringement of the office rules and regulations.

One of the most popular therapies that is used to manage anger and lower your anxiety and discomfort levels is the use of voodoo dolls. Voodoo dolls are small faceless dolls into which you stick pins and needles to “vent” your anger. Similar to writing a letter to the subject of your anger but never sending it, voodoo dolls allow you to express your anger in a safe manner without anyone actually being on the receiving end of it.
